Premium-grade, single-origin, direct-trade tea

delivered to your desk or door, month after month.

Our other subscription plan:

Resilient and abundantly flavorful, these teas are easy to brew and retain their character after multiple steeps.

This collection serves as a great entry point to premium-grade specialty tea; yet after the connoisseurs and tea reviewers get a taste, they just keep coming back for more.

Using a ‘no corners cut’ approach, we sourced these teas through countless trips to the mountains, followed by painstakingly deliberate tastings with our trusted team of tea makers-cum-teachers.

The central mountain core of Taiwan lies on the tropic of cancer, with a subtropical climate and fertile soils. Heavy mists bathe the high mountains, which protects the leaves from the full glare of the sun. Taiwan's terroir, as if by design, is just perfect for nurturing tea.

This tea is created by craftsmen whom have an intimate knowledge of their trade and ply their skills to elevate the humble tea leaf into an exquisite tasting experience. This is tea of pure indulgence and refinement at it’s highest apogee.

Just as artists are commissioned to create, we must order the majority of these competition-grade teas in advance since the raw tea leaves must be carefully selected.

As with many other fine products, there is not an exact and easily repeatable methodology for turning these raw leaves into exquisite tea.

The quality of a lot is often defined by the maker’s discerning selection of what he deems to be first-class and his readiness to reject the majority of the batch, reserving it for less-demanding customers.

WE'RE STORY TELLERS

Behind every artisan tea is a story of tradition & terroir. We tell these stories leaving only one missing element between you and the deepest sense of appreciation for your tea: a touch of imagination.

We source directly from family-owned farms only during harvest season to ensure that our handpicked, traditionally-crafted, single-origin teas are fresh and handled with care.

Our Commitments

DIRECT TRADE

RADICAL TRANSPARENCY

We endeavour to restore the authenticity and reinstate the human connection in tea by removing the distance between our products, their origin & their makers.

To endeavour to both ‘savour’ and ‘save’ the world in equal measure: to live courageously yet deliberately, driven by curiosity, guided by gratitude.

Sometimes we find ourselves in a divinely-balanced environment where things live and grow with determined rigor. In such moments you can project yourself out into the natural world and receive an affirming response; feel a lifeforce; and establish a bolstered devotion to a place. These are those visceral, human experiences which centre us and any unsettling desires and expectations, or lingering concerns are suddenly replaced with gratitude. This is when the S in ASAP becomes an H.

The #AHAP Manifesto

To rebuild our connection and affinity with nature, reminding us that we are one and both the same.

To practice healthy habits and rituals that help us get centred, achieve balance, and maximise our impact on whatever corner of the world we occupy.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I get each month?

Either 60g (50+10) or 75g of tea each month — depending upon your plan — custom-labelled with everything you need to know about the tea, a travelogue on the region and a long-form piece of journalism on the culture from which we borrow each tea - all neatly wrapped in indigo blue silk paper especially for you.

How do you discern the difference between the IC/TD and DC level teas?

We use our web of relationships to hunt for the finest quality of teas, but not with a blank check. After we’ve picked the winners and done our due diligence on all of our sources, we then go through a series of painstakingly deliberate tastings with our trusted team of tea makers-cum-teachers at our HQ in Taipei, Taiwan. Occasionally we come across some rare, competition-grade teas that are the grand cru of tea. These are the teas we reserve for our Discerning Connoisseur subscription plan.

I’m on the Intrepid Collector subscription, how do I personalize my tea experience?

We collect all of the data points on your taste in tea from the feedback you provide via the monthly surveys. The first four months of your subscription are specially designed to give us sufficient feedback across the broad spectrum of tea - enough to ensure that every one’s a winner.

Why do you sell your tea through a monthly subscription plan?

To enhance or change one’s perspective on what it means to enjoy the ritual of drinking good tea, it takes more than a series of intermittent transactions. Our job isn’t to sell tea. It’s our job to carefully curate the world’s finest teas and make them feel like souvenirs from the vacation you’re yet to talk, month after month.

How do you find your sources and meet the tea makers?

We connect with entrepreneurial tea makers who are harnessing the power of the internet to trade direct, trade-supporting government organisations of tea-making nations and some spirited individuals who are on a mission to change the way that tea is bought and sold for the better.

What does sustainability mean to Dachi Tea Co.? (10% pledge)

To us, sustainability is an inclusive approach to finding long-term solutions that are win-win due to the prevailing of common sense. We search for situations when the long-term health of the soil and natural ecosystem is balanced with the short term safety of the crops and livelihoods of the farmers; and where human tradition is preserved and community is cultivated.

What are the company’s core values

— We source directly from family-owned farms only during harvest season to ensure that our handpicked, traditionally-crafted, single-origin teas are fresh and handled with care.
— Behind every artisan tea is a story of of tradition & terroir. We tell these stories leaving only one missing element between you and the deepest sense of appreciation for your tea: a touch of imagination.
— We endeavour to restore the authenticity and reinstate the human connection in tea by removing the distance between our products, their origin & their makers.

How do you define the Dachi Tea Co. approach to living?

How did it all begin?

How should I store my tea?

Once opened, these teas will last up to 6 months, but you should make sure that most of the oxygen is removed from the bag and reseal, storing in a cool, dry, dark place to retain that fresh, full flavour.

Are your teas certified organic?

We are firm supporters and advocates of the organic agriculture movement. All of our teas would pass organic certification testing aside from a couple from Japan and Taiwan who have their reasons for carefully pesticide via spray, as opposed to the more lasting effects of doing so through irrigation. So many of our farmers who use organic farming methods - some even going beyond organic - forgo certification because their crops are too small to justify the expense. We want to be a part of the growers’ journey towards finding an organic solution to growing their tea leaves, and with your support, sponsor the certification process.

What do you mean by ‘third wave’ tea?

If the demand for thoughtfully grown and made tea increases, more and more industry makers will treat their tea gardens and workers with greater care, since long-term thinking and care and attention at every step is what’s needed. In our opinion, raising demand for better quality is the only real sustainable solution to seeing the change we want to see./n The tea industry has teas that have been commodified (conventional tea bags), then came premiumisation (flavoring and fancy packaging), and now it has teas where the cultivar, harvest date and method of making all matter. The ‘third wave’ of tea is here and we intend on riding it all around the world (with fancy packaging, too).

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. Everything from the location of our operations, our business model and even our packaging design has been done so we can ship to anywhere, consistently and affordably. It has been one heck of a challenge, but after partnering with an awesome logistics startup in Hong Kong, things are running smooth.
